Mobile Bay Classic

The ladies take centre stage this week

Stacy Lewis is the defending champion at this week’s Mobile Bay LPGA Classic and the American player has everything in her favour as she strives to record her eight win on the LPGA Tour. She has already won twice this season and at number two in the standings is the highest world ranked player in the field.

Lewis has the best course form of the entire field and on current form is the best player in the world even though the rankings do not reflect her supremacy. She is on a run of six consecutive cuts and is the leading money winner on the LPGA Tour this season. On a course that is above average in length Lewis scores highly for driving distance but is also in the top 25 for greens in regulation and putting average.

Priced at 7/2 Lewis is short enough for betting purposes but sometimes it is not wise to ignore the obvious. At this level she could be the bet of the year as she is opposed by just one other player in the top 10 from the world rankings and only six from the top 20.

The most viable alternative to Lewis could be the Australian veteran Karrie Webb. She has made her last five cuts and played over the weekend for the last three years at the host course in Alabama that is the regular home of this event.

Jessica Korda combines length off the tee and good statistics for finding the greens in the correct number of shots. She is currently at a career high of 40 in the world rankings but looks another US player who could challenge the dominance of the Far East contingent on the women’s Tour.
