Tiger Roars to Victory at the Players
The outcome of last week’s Players Championship was ultimately decided by one poor decision and shot and yet again our followers were on the wrong end of the late drama. We tipped Sergio Garcia and the Spanish player had a great week until his tee shot on the 17th hole in the final round.
At the time Garcia was level with Tiger Woods who was playing the tough final hole. He went for the flag on the island green but came up just short and found water. In effect that was the tournament lost for Sergio who compounded the error by hitting a second tee shot into water.
His final hole double bogey cost Sergio a payout place and a return for followers of our Ratings that looked a certainty until Garcia’s two hole ‘dog licence’…7 and 6. Sadly it was another case of hitting the bar for the Ratings but Garcia could have been layed at 3.0 having been advised at 34.0.
Henrik Stenson represented another great call for our unique golf Ratings. He was in contention from the start of play and at one point during the third round led the tournament with two reachable par 5s to play. Stenson faltered slightly on Sunday but still rewarded each-way backers with a nice 14/1 winner.
It is difficult to see where Garcia can now go with his career. He has almost talked himself into believing he is not good enough to win a major but a second Players Championship would have been some compensation. As it was Woods has now accumulated four titles at the earliest point in the season throughout his PGA Tour career.
